Daystar - the Continent and the World
Where does the Echoes of the Ancients take place?
- Echoes of the Ancients, the server you’re currently browsing, is set upon a fictional, Pangea-like continent of Daystar, which encompasses, to its native denizens, their whole known world. It is currently experiencing its own, resurgent Bronze Age, shortly after the collapse of the Steel one, of an Ancient society, called the Domain. Its planetary system has two suns.
 - Although influenced in its creation by the very real world of Terra, and based on the medium of Vintage Story, it bears no real relation to the history, storylines, or cultures, of either. No historical figures were harmed in its creation.
 - Daystar possesses four identifiable regions:
Mesana, the central wasteland of dust, dunes and occasional oases of struggling greenery.
The Underground, encompassing a breadth of tunnels, caverns and cellars, starting at the Gates of Mesana.
Cindorath, a rugged, volcanically-active, arid peninsula to the north-east of Mesana.
And lastly, Venmire, a south-western post-glacial valley, rich in fauna, flora and trouble. - The current Season 0 of Echoes of the Ancients takes place in Venmire, having started shortly after the beginning of the Age of Shifting Sands (July 2025), where your character is part of a refugee wave from one of the four existing ethnicities, referred to collectively as the Vanguard, pioneers by necessity, whether having arrived as an adult or finished their formative years in Venmire.

- For new character applications, you and your character, respectively should meet the following criteria: at bare minimum, 16 (sixteen) years of age and 18 (eighteen) years of age, be of sound mind and decent behaviour, and willing to learn the bare minimum of the setting's lore (to your and other players' immersion's benefit), allowing you to write an application of acceptable length and depth, allowing the Storyteller overseeing your whitelisting enough material to ascertain whether or not you are indeed welcome, or, unfortunately, an unacceptable presence to be turned down.
 - By necessity of logic, your Season 0 character application requires you to also state your character's reasoning for and/or their experience of travelling to Venmire, in clear enough detail.
 - There is no requirement for your language to be flowery, or for you to be a highly proficient English speaker (assuming your grasp of the language allows you to still properly communicate your creative ideas). There is neither a minimum nor maximum for the word count or the amount of paragraphs, the only necessity being that you properly fill out the required fields of the application. You are not obligated in any way to read the ENTIRETY of the lore, only the materials provided to you [hyperlink]. And it's not a race - you can take your time to write it, you can ask for help in any matters in relevant spaces, such as [hyperlink], or on the community Discord server.
 - Once the application has been concluded in your favour, you will be informed by the Storyteller overseeing it to place a ticket with the Community Team. If they find no issue with the processing thus far, you will be whitelisted on the server within 3 to 48 hours.
 - Vintage Story allows all of the mods included in the Echoes of the Ancients to be downloaded automatically upon your first (or any following) connection to the host server, with no necessary manual installation. You are encouraged to occasionally clean the data cache of those mods, and allow them to be reinstalled in the same way, as, being a common issue to all VS modding, their files can and will break.

- The whitelisting process is a once-and-done affair. If you have successfully passed the first assertion, unless, through misdemeanor, you wound up banned, you do not need to write a new application for your any new characters you make thereafter.
 - Outside of specific circumstances listed in the [hyperlinks] Law & Villainy Ruleset, the Esoterica Ruleset and Royalty Ruleset, and outside of your character reaching an absurd biological age (i.e. above 120 years of age), death is not considered permanent and you will not be told to kill your character under any circumstances. Coercion to do so by a player can become a bannable offence if repeated.
 - The Community rules involving metagaming and powergaming apply here too - be mindful of them in regard to your new characters 'inheriting' any CAN Claims real estate, raw and processed materials, and crafted gear.
